Villa Loriana

An Italian-inspired retreat on the western edge of San Luis Obispo — forty-foot waterfall, four on-site villa suites, two nights of stay for the wedding party.

From the Editors

We were married here. The forty-foot waterfall behind the ceremony site is the photo every guest takes home — and the four on-site villa suites mean the wedding party doesn’t scatter to a dozen hotels at midnight. Morning-after coffee in the Toscana Suite kitchen ran longer than any of us expected. Two days, one address, the same group of people the whole way through.

Villa Loriana sits on the western edge of San Luis Obispo at 500 West Ormonde Road — close enough to downtown that vendors and guests come from one address, far enough out that the only thing you hear during the ceremony is water on rock. The architecture is Mediterranean Italian estate: indigenous oak canopy, terraced lawns, a full-scale waterfall built into the ceremony site that runs forty feet down a stacked-stone wall.

The ceremony anchor is the waterfall site itself — every photographer who shoots here ends up putting it in the album. The pavilion handles outdoor receptions for up to 200 seated, and the indoor great room handles up to 350. The on-property gaming lawn (bocce + horseshoes) takes the cocktail hour off the dance floor for couples who want it.

What separates Villa Loriana from most SLO-area venues: the four on-site villa suites. The Sorrento and Toscana suites each sleep six (three California Kings each, 1,295 square feet, oversized velvet sofas in navy and olive); the Baldini suite sleeps four with a full Wolf-Range kitchen; the detached Cottage sleeps four with a private patio and fire pit. The wedding party doesn’t disperse to four hotels at 11 p.m. — everyone walks back to the same property. Two nights of stay are included with the wedding rental for up to twenty guests.

Catering is outside-only — Villa Loriana works from a preferred-vendor list with case-by-case approvals for outside caterers carrying the right insurance. The catering patio is purpose-built (covered workspace, refrigeration, sinks, prep tables, butler’s pantry). All alcohol must be served by licensed and insured providers.
